The first edition of the commemorative work “Short Commentary of Civil Code”, under the supervision and coordination of Professor Apostolos Georgiadis, has been enthusiastically received by the entire legal community and was established as the most concise but at the same time complete and informative interpretation of the Civil Code.

In the twelve years that have passed since the first edition of the first part of the SCCC, there have been significant legislative changes to individual interpreted provisions (e.g. Articles 261, 346, 652 CC), which have made it necessary to update the work in order to ensure that it remains a reliable and useful “tool of work”. The most radical reform of the material in the first volume, however, is undoubtedly the recent amendment of Articles 513 et seq. CC, and in particular the provisions on the seller’s liability, by Law 4967/2022, which incorporated Directive (EU) 2019/771 into our domestic law. The relevant articles in their current content are interpreted thoroughly and in such a way as to systematically highlight the successive changes in the law of sale and its evolution into a largely Community-inspired and formulated contractual formula.

Alongside the legislative update, the challenge for the co-authors-contributors was to enrich their contributions with the developments in case law, both in terms of the interpretation of the revised provisions and in terms of the elaboration of the general clauses of the Civil Code and their adaptation to the new social and economic conditions, especially with regard to the problems arising from the ongoing economic crisis and the pandemic of Covid-19.

The group of outstanding jurists (the majority of whom are professors at the three law schools of the country) who took over on the interpretation of Articles 1-946 CC from the outset has remained almost unchanged in this second edition; newer, but already renowned and eminent, scholars have been added to it. Otherwise, the same useful structure and presentation of the material has been maintained, thanks to which the SEAK has been established as the most valuable interpretative aid for the student and practitioner of our Civil Code.
